If there is Breaking News that Special Prosecutor Mueller is fired what next?

Breaking News on CNN or MSNBC about Trump (Fox News does not give breaking news on Trump), have been occurring frequently since he became president. Each time you see the words on the screen you hold your breath and anticipate another big scandal. Coming soon a Breaking News that flashes on the TV screen and reads, “Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller has been fired,” leaves you in a state of disbelief.

The news of Mueller’s firing is not “fake news” it is hypothetical news because Mueller is still performing his job investigating the Russian collusion problem that Donald Trump and others associated with him are subject of interests. If Mueller was to be fired, then this could potentially take down Trump. This is not a given though as I wrote in my last diary about Trump’s apparent invincibility – so many of the bizarre things he has done fizzle out then go flat.

Ten days ago the Breaking News was Trump’s son, Donald, Jr. who got himself in a mess by taking a meeting with Russian operatives who promised to give him dirt and Hillary Clinton. Don, Jr. is scheduled to testify before the Senate Judiciary committee next week about his meeting.

If special prosecutor, Robert Mueller is fired, then it would be because we have a president who operates in the subjective realm of reason where fear and insecurity are active. This was evidenced in his recent New York Times interview where he was asked if Mr. Mueller’s investigation would cross a red line if it expanded to look at his family’s finances beyond any relationship to Russia. Trump’s response was: “I would say yes. I think that’s a violation. Look, this is about Russia.”

Obviously, Trump is getting fidgety about what Mueller might find if he follows Trump’s money trail. The Washington Post has reported that,

He has asked his advisers about his power to pardon aides, family members and even himself in connection with the probe, according to one of those people. A second person said Trump’s lawyers have been discussing the president’s pardoning powers among themselves.

If Trump has nothing to hide why is he so worried that he would issue this warning to Mueller? And why is he now exploring to see if he has the power to pardon himself and others involved in the Russian scandal that has plagued his entire six months in the White House? Perhaps he is worried that Mueller could subpoena his tax returns that he has stubbornly refused to release. Trump’s tax returns could be the key to showing significant foreign investment taxes that points to possible Russian business deals.

Experts have said that Trump does not have the authority to fire Mueller. What he can do though is order his attorney general to fire him. If this should happen, then it would be more evidence in the pattern of obstruction that we saw with the FBI director James Comey. Firing Mueller would be political suicide for Trump as one of two scenarios would likely develop. First, the onus of dealing with Trump would shift to the Congress where they would be pressured to impeach him.

Even with Mueller’s firing, the Republican-controlled Congress that has defended Trump’s Russian collusion/election interference problem might not be cooperative or quick to issue articles of impeachment against Trump. They long ago accepted Trump’s bizarre behavior going back from his birtherism conspiracy theory against Pres. Obama.

If the Congress drags their feet or seems unwilling to want to impeach Trump, then the second scenario that could unfold is that of people protesting in the streets. At this stage, Americans would have seen enough to realize that actions like firing Mueller are not the way to govern – this doesn’t even happen in countries that Americans labeled as banana republics. This massive protest will either force Trump to resign or force the Congress to impeach him.
