Donald Trump is a wheeler-dealer who knows how to manipulate situations for his advantage. We have seen him do this repeatedly with the media to get lots of free press. He doesn’t need to run any political ads because the media covers everything he says and everywhere he goes.
Somehow, Donald Trump has managed to get an invitation from President Enrique Peña Nieto presumably to talk about his immigration policy. Knowing how Trump has a way of saying things that seems to be the opposite of reality, is it possible that he made a deal with Pres. Nieto to get this invitation. Why would he make this deal? The Washington Post article explains,
The visit comes after Trump has wavered for weeks on whether he will continue to hold his hard-line positions on the central and incendiary issue of his campaign, in particular his call to deport an estimated 11 million immigrants who are living in the United States illegally.
Early in the primary campaign, Donald Trump made headlines by proposing to build a wall and let Mexico pay for it. If that wasn’t enough insult for Mexicans, he said,
When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re sending people that have lots of problems. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists, and some, I assume, are good people.
Subsequent to this huge insult of Mexicans, Trump went on to say that he would deport 11 million undocumented Mexicans back to Mexico.
Under criticism and pressure, Trump is trying to back away from his proposed deportation of 11 million undocumented Mexicans. He is scheduled to give a major policy speech on immigration later today after his return from Mexico.
I will bet my bottom dollar that Trump is going to say that his meeting with Pres. Nieto was successful. He will also say that that the president has begged him not to deport undocumented Mexicans because it will severely impact the Mexican economy.
Once Trump makes this announcement, the media will spend the rest of the campaign talking about how Trump is flexible and how he is willing to meet with head of states to address problems. The pundits who like him will sing his praise and say that’s why he will “make America great again.”
Sooner or later (and I hope its sooner) Americans will realize that Trump is not only a narcissist with all kinds of character flaws that makes him unfit to be presidential but he is also an illusionist.
