Donald Trump Cannot Make America Strong Again with his Divisive and Insulting Tendencies

At his town hall meeting last Thursday night in Rochester, New Hampshire, Donald Trump demonstrated once again why he is not fit to be president of the USA. His response to a question raised by an obvious hater of President Obama revealed all the weaknesses and pretenses of Mr. Trump. This was the dialog that occurred:

Unidentified Man: We have a problem in this country — it’s called Muslims, we know our current president is one.

Trump: “right.”

Unidentified Man: “You know he’s not even an American — birth certificate, man!”

Trump: “We need this question, this is the first question,”

Unidentified Man: “We have training camps growing where they want to kill us. That’s my question. When can we get rid of them?”

Trump: “We’re going to be looking at a lot of different things, and a lot of people are saying that and saying that bad things are happening out there. We’re going to be looking at that and plenty of other things,”

Although Mr. Trump did not attempt to correct the assertion that President Obama is a Muslim, he did confirm it by saying “right.”

Donald Trump had two choices to demonstrate his leadership ability, his negotiating skills, and his intellect. The choice that would have done this for him was to say something like this, “I don’t think the President is a Muslims. He himself has indicated a number of times that he is a Christian. While Muslims have been linked to atrocities like the 9/11 tragedy, not all Muslims are bad people.” Since his choice was in agreement with everything the man said, he discredited himself as a political leader and showed that he is unfit to be president.

For a person who boasts about his negotiating skills and who think he can “Make America Strong Again,” Mr. Trump should have used his negotiating skills of persuasion and leadership to discredit a provocative and ignorant question. If he becomes president how is he going to respond to tough questions in negotiations with foreign heads of state or make prudent choices in dealing with tough crises at home and abroad?

Mr. Trump’s belief that President Obama is a Muslim is synonymous with his belief that the president is not an American. He was the chief promoter of the birther conspiracy. Even after the president released a copy of his birth certificate, his hatred of the president could not allow him to accept it. To minimize his ignorance about Presidents Obama’s birthplace, he took credit by saying he was responsible for getting the president to release his birth certificate.

If any candidate from the 2016 presidential field is unfit to be president of the US, Donald Trump certainly is that candidate. Any person who aspires to be president of the US should not sanction divisive, ignorant, and hate filled comments. America is a diverse country and as such, its president must be respectful of all people – even when some racial or cultural groups have bad people who commit atrocities.

Donald Trump’s egotism, narcissism, erratic temperament, lack of political experience, and divisiveness, are not the kind of attributes that would make him a good president. America has its share of social conflicts and requires a president who is a healer rather than a person like Mr. Trump who is divisive.
